Ornamental Vases

Another long gap between blogs. It was a busy year here in Hampshire, with the major work of a complete re-thatch of the cottage, undertaken between May and August. A fascinating project to both watch and have a crack at - though I'm sure that my 'bit' will be the first to fail. Hopefully not for a good few years though.

Wood turning took a bit of a back seat to the re-thatch, but we did manage to have the 700 year-old Yew Tree trimmed whilst the scaffolding was in place over the conservatory, and there are now a large number of Yew logs seasoning in the workshop.
To evaluate possibilities for that timber when it's ready, I procured some seasoned Yew, and began turning some small vases.

It's a lovely wood to turn when properly prepared - the waste comes off in ribbons when cut with a gouge or skew.

And with the addition of some glass artwork made by @queenymac, they make a beautiful gift. Especially with a pyrographed personal message added. Again by my very talented wife.
